Default 8N Ford Hydraulic Issues

So here's the problem I have a 1948 8n ford blew the bull gear apart last year got a used rear end with awsome hydraulics but now they aren't working I changed the fluid and put on a new shifter boot when I put it together now the only way I can get it to lift anything is to flip the little switch under the seat and push it down any suggestions as to what's going on its a head scratcher

Maybe this will help. You most likely have a internal leak somewhere. Merton

Why would it work fine on the one side of that switch but not in normal conditions and what is that switch for under the seat on the right side?

William - The switch under the seat - I think you are asking about is the draft control selector. Draft control is for plowing or box blade work. If you plan on keeping the tractor you will need to purchase a service manual and a parts manual. Merton

If you removed the top cover make sure when it was reinstalled the long rod went back into the slot on the valve. This can be checked by removing the side cover that has the dipstick .You can also run the tractor with the side covers off to see if everything is moving.

Possibly the linkages didn't get back in the right way when reassembled? If the pto lever doesn't operate then I would open the side cover and have a good look inside, the pto has to operate for the lift to work. F.J.W.
