I am working hard to provide all the information in my posts, hoping that if at least one piece of equipment was spared from the junk heap the effort was well worth it! The Link:

Tractor Dom,

Thank you for the work you are doing scanning and posting all these old documents. They are a treasure trove and are appreciated.

I had a Case W7 diesel very similar to these back in the 80's. Mine was a 1967 as I recall. It was a very stout machine that ran and started well and never gave me any trouble.

I'm curious, though, how you arrived at the 1950 date. I would have guessed at least a decade later, judging by the style of the fonts etc.

That date (1950) was printed on the back cover

The literature mentions that it uses an engine from a Case 700, which was made from 58-60

I would be inclined to think the 559 on the back page, means it was printed in May 1959

Thanks for the tractor brochure. I really like the look of that 4wd monster. It's a serious piece of machinery! Like oldtractors, I found that 559 mark on the last page and came to the same conclusion, May of 1959. But that's not for sure. I looked at the W9 brochure once again hoping to find some sort of clue in the photos, e.g. a 1955 truck or something, but no luck. The brochure says "over 100 years" but Case seems to have been started in 1842 (!) so again no help there.

I never cared for Case stuff until I bought the W7. I don't know why, probably because I wasn't familiar with them. But as I said I was very pleased with the W7, which was very well built, and when I did need some minor parts I got excellent dealer support. Later a friend of mine PTO coupled an old 100HP Case diesel tractor to his big circular sawmill and that tractor dug right in and roared when cutting a big hardwood log. If I needed a machine I wouldn't hesitate a moment to buy another Case. Ford, on the other hand... I liked the Birmingham 4 cylinders (I had a 4000 tractor loader with a 4 speed and the Sherman step up - step down, and one or another 800 series with a Sherman backhoe and loader). Light, powerful and reliable. Great traction and no need for a locking diff. But time moves on and these were replaced by a British built 4400 diesel. I hate that clunky monster. Heavy, slow, easy to get stuck, and since New Holland took the line over, forget about getting parts. They're orphans. And wouldn't you know, I still own it. Grr!

Thank you for the owner's manual. I do not have one of those, but I do have the service manual. I bought that shortly after I bought the tractor, pretty much on general principles and because it was available at the time. If anyone needs any part of the manual I would be glad to scan in that part as well. You are right, the manual is BIG. I think I also have the service manual for the W7 someplace, so if anyone has need, just ask. It too is big, so scanning the whole thing is a time consuming task and then keeping all of the pages in order, my head is starting to swim at the prospect! But section by section, as I say, if anyone needs, just ask!
