I couldn't find the serial #on cooling fin but a partial on the flywheel(02973),also on the caution tag model 92m ,231 long frame and a square condenser. Can anyone give a rough idea what year this motor is.The inspection cover is missing also and would like to know which one belongs on it.Thanks........George

George, you can find what year it is by the number on the rim of the flywheel. You must have misread or mistyped the serial number as it wouldn't start with a zero.

The number is stamped into the exterior of the rim ABOVE a cooling fin. Not on the fin itself. If they tried stamping the number on an open area, the rim would collapse!. The serial number will have 6 digits. Without the full 6 digits, unless you have the first 3, it will be hard to date at all. The 92 type was made from 1927 to 1937, with a few more assembled from parts until around 1963, when maytag got rid of all their engine parts.

Thanks guys, first chance I get I'll double check for a stamping above the fins.Something was rubbing on the flywheel and scrubbed off the first two numbers.Do they normally put the numbers on both the block and flywheel? George

The only serial number is on the flywheel. Sadly if you can't read the number on the flywheel there isn't another way to date tour engine.

Casting numbers off the kickstart pedal and fuel tank may get you within a year or so
