John I am not sure. The original engine [motor proper] on this boiler was bought by my father for the engine on his rough 1/4 scale Sawyer-Massey. The engine in the photo that you posted is the newer one on the original boiler. Jerry built the original motor from scratch, then built the replacement from proper castings. He at one time [may still be there] had moved to Wiarton after a separation, I am assuming he still has the model. He at one time also had a 17 S-M portable that he found up near Gravenhurst. I am not sure what became of it. He had the Ontario Hydro barge crew take him into the bush, and drop him off on an island. He disassembled the engine, took it to the shore, and the barge came back in, loaded it, and dropped it off on the dock for him. I have enclosed a pic of dad's model now in the care of Jeff Searson. The govenor is not original to the engine, it came off of an engine owned, and built by the late Ed Cooper of Maple, when Ed decided to improve his model. Both these models would have been at Steam Era at one point. The wheels came off of a free lance Case also from London owned by Charlie Dykeman who also did an upgrade. Dad respoked the wheels.

I was wondering if anyone out there might be able to help me. I saw that one of the post had the engine lineup for one of the Steam-Era shows from the 70's i believe. I was wondering if anyone had the brochures from the 1960's preferably with the engine lineup. Thank you- Mike

Well im new to the forums but got my start at Steam Era about 20 years ago. My Grandpa W.J Earl has been there since about 1963 had not missed a show till this year. I have several old pictures and a few videos that i have made the last few years since i got into Youtube will post a few links and we will dig up a few old pictures. Thru my grandpa ive met several people.. Sherwood Hume, Jim and Guy Heaslip, Keith Dunn to name a few and of course many others i always look forward to Steam Era every year its probably the best and my favorite show to come to. Here's a few videos i made, will look for pictures.

So!??! It turns out I still have a few brain cells that are firing as I stumbled across a picture in the Nov/Dec 1985 Iron-Men Album of the flat car load I saw heading west of Ross Johnson's collection! It all went to Davenport, California - Buffalo-Springfield roller, Bucyrus-Erie shovel, PH engine, Cat 60!
Also, from the Aug/Sept 1986 Engineers and Engines, the story of Mr. Christian's 110 Case tour! The picture is at SteamEra with Dennis Webb in the cab and John Calder posing in front - two well known Ontario steam men of the day!
The story was about them doing 5 shows that summer - Greenville, Ohio; Rushville, Indiana; Dover, Ohio; Milton, Ontario; and Richland County, Ohio!!!
Here's the little story as written by Bob Clarke, Ross' dad:
"This year, 1985, was the ... 25th Anniversary of SteamEra ...As a special attraction ... we decided to invite Junior Christian to bring his 1913 110 Case steam traction engine and participate in our activities.
What a wise choice this was! The majority of the people in this very urban area of Ontario have never seen a steamer of this size and power and all were enthralled as Junior put it through its paces.
This writer has had some experience in the restoration field and I feel I can truly say with some authority that Junior's restoration job on this engine is absolutely letter perfect; and work it did. If he didn't have it busy on the sawmill, it was busy showing its stuff on the baker fan.
Junior was kind and patient in answering many, many repetitious questions that came from the public at shows such as this.
For any organization wishing to present a special attraction at their event, I highly recommend Junior and his 110 Case."
Strong praise from a fine man, Bob Clarke!
Merry Christmas,
Onkel G.
That's big John the "Hogger Calder leaning against the 110. That engine sat in the back of John's property before being brought to Milton. I remember that engine being winched on to the float at his house...........scary.
Junior use to have a bench grinder set up with buffing wheels on it for the sole purpose of polishing whistles.
That was the same year they used John's Universal to film Anne of Green Gables.

Was at the late J.D. Calder's last weekend. John's wife Joyce asked if I was interested in magazines that John had. I found this one among many others good reading material she gave me.
Anybody remember this ?

Old Jim Anderson and his Russell portable. Easy steamer first and only engine I fired with a water bottom firebox.
Old Jim would tell you stories and share some of his favorite beverage with you. Lol even if you looked 19 but weren't. Couple times I recall a lot longer walk back to the trailer than usual lol. The year I believe was 1983.

Bill Johnson's, American Abell. 18 hp(?)
Ed Oliver was Bill's main man back in the day. Good engineer and set us young green fellas straight.
Working pressure 100psi. I think back to a thread I started about "what can you do with 100 psi" or something to that effect. You can do plenty lol. This particular engine needed every bit of 100 psi on the saw mill. Wasn't the most powerful engine I've fired but with a firebox full of hard wood and a quick hand on the injector she'd put on quite a show. It was always a battle to keep enuf water or steam where you needed it. If you didn't keep up there was no making up water or steam and you'd have to stop and recoup. She was odd too, as the slide valve would come off it's seat and blow steam up the stack when starting.

So is the 60th anniversary in 2021 or 2020? I was told by a few that it was 2020. Anyone have engine lineups for the early years of the show?

Here's a few more from quite some time ago. Don't know the years except the one with the 110 Case was from the 1985 25th anniversary show. The other 3 photos I picked up at flea markets but I'm sure they are from the Milton show.

Missed one of the photos from the previous post. I believe the Frick photo is from the Milton show, likely 60's, early 70's, before I was born!
