It was more than a few dollars.
The museum needed funds and was wanting to expand its Canadian built collection.
Jim Erdle wanted the Fairbanks as well and offered a trade of several good Canadian built tractors for the Fairbanks.
In the end cash won.
Knowing Jim's collection I suspect there may have been tractors offered in that trade that they will never get a crack at again and I'm guessing his Tillsoil might have been one of them.

Casertractor, the 15-30 was owned by 2 guys from Campbellford, names escape me now, but yes thats the one that used to come to steam era also.

Craig, compared to what it would bring now it was only a "few" dollars, you'd have people lined up till next week to pay that now. The Tillsoil was not one of the tractors offered, though maybe if it had been that may have swung the deal. I know one was a 24-12 beaver unrestored, it was a 2 or 3 tractors + cash deal.

When it first left, yes it did go back to the owners, they took it home when the museum closed. It was not "for sale" so much as it was "available" for awhile though, $25,000 could have bought it, 20 years ago! I have a pic of it on a trailer in North Bay heading out west, and it is now in the states, possibly with the 30-60? I can't remember now.

At the time I heard it was the oldest running tractor in the province, and had always been an Ontario tractor...

Well folks, in these pictures, the White engine with rubber tires on, I believe is Burt Batty's engine. I sure the guy on the right is Burt. This the engine he owned before he bought the Sawyer from Stewart Muir. This is old picture, around 1968, I think. #2 Harley

Well, I am really going back in time Uncle "G" and correct me if I am wrong this time. The picture with the 3 Sawyers and the Case; the Case and 20 Sawyer were owned by a dairy farmer northeast of Milton.(Lesley's) They were only at the show once that I know of. I don't where the Case is but Gord Tuck bought the 20. The compound was owned by a guy named Barret Muir of Shanty Bay. Harley #2

Funny you should mention Ernie's engine Dave i was thinking the same thing but Mr Allens engine did have a full Roof.if it is the same engine it is no longer running as the Boiler was put out of service a few years back as it did run the show circut here in Ontario prior for alot of years. in later years it was owned and operated by Mr Allens son in Law.John

Lol I remember that show like it was yesterday. Best or one of the best Steam Eras I've ever attended. Sherwood Hume had a vacant lot in Milton that had soft coal there. So Darrell Partrick and Drew Mcgee and I were told to bag it up and bring it to the show. Some engines got and some unfortunately didn't. We had fun thou. Hauled hundreds of pounds through town with an International Cub and tandem axle trailer. Miss those days and the people that have passed since then.
