...so I might be missing something here. Can someone look at the price of this thing and tell me what it is I'm missing?

the high bidder must be on something. Iv been to several shows trying to sell 5S and 6S engines all summer for 5 to 15 dollers and havent sold a single one. They made millions of them. I would love to talk to the high bidder, ask 50$ to 75$ a peice for the ones i have. i think hed by all of them!. thats just an insane price. but sometimes prices are insanely high on scambay. Truthfully i hate selling on e-bay, Paypal is awfull for sellers in my mind, and there are alot of fees. On occation il bye something of ebay, but only if its one of those good deals witch are verry rare there.

Yeah--that's how I knew the price was outragous. I picked up my 5s and 6s from the same guy at an engine/tractor show a couple years ago. I got the 5s primered and with no carb or muffler for $5, and the 6s that was complete (to steal the carb and muffler from for the 5s) for $10. Works out to $7.50 a piece! I actually decied to get them both going, and if they can run w/o any major overhauling I'll paint them up, then start looking at other models/makes for next projects.

Might be a shill bidding thing going on there to make it seem valuable. Wouldn't be the first time that's happened on e-bay.

I saw a flea market this summer that was asking $100 for a 5s with no compression or air cleaner. I just chuckled and walked on.

I would take that for one of the 5s's I have and I will Guaranty it will run. I other 5s is my birthday engine. It would cost you A Lot more than this. It also runs.

Keep an eye on the local want ads over the winter, You might find one or a complete old reel mower with one for almost nothing. Another good idea is to make friends with the local dump or trash guys. They aren't supposed to pick from the trash but ............
I know you will find one for a reasonable price, good luck.

You'd think for that price the guy would throw in a spark plug!

The seller said it doesn't even have compression! Could be the lack of spark plug though.

The final bid was $146.50 wish I could contact the runner up, I'd sell mine for an even $125 (and throw in the spark plug)!
