Ronny
I've heard this from my wife, and probably many more guys that frequest this site have heard it than have not. As long as I stay in my budget I usually don't get any complaints.

I must say my wife is pretty good with it all, I know a few other guys who have wives that aren't.

About 25 years ago I bought a new old stock Okrasa kit for the 36hp VW engine. It consisted of a forges stroker crank, dual port heads and dual carb set-up. I spent $600 for the whole kit in the original box. My wife FLIPPED as we were struggling financially. Well about 3 years ago, I sold the kit and a few other vintage goodies for $16,900! I gave my wife $1000.
Tell your wife my story.
P.S. My wife looks at my buying stuff in a different way now!

Our farm is divided by the driveway, one side is the house and lawn and flowers this is the wifes side. She says I don't care what the hell you drag home as long as you keep it on your side of the driveway!!!
She also knows the value of things and she helps me lift and tote and haul stuff.

the trouble i have is i am told by the time you sell those we wont need the money
10 years ago we bought a nice car at auction paid 1,400 dollars for it got it home looked at the documentation with it and a week before it went to auction it had 1,380 spent on the turbo for a smoking problem
long story cut short next morning on start up back yard was lost in smoke
the look on er indoors face i thought i were dead very shortly
then a quick sniff and all was resolved (auto trans fluid burning has a unique smell)22 dollars later we had a daily driver
the beast is a mazda royal sovereign 2 litre v6 turbo saloon
now valued at $8.000 plus
still driven now each day by my 17 year old son and i am under strict orders not to sell as it is now a rare model as most have blown or been scrapped as most of them got a hard life

Hey Ronny;

I saw one of them , has a hit and miss engine, right? I would be nuts enough to buy the thing too, more than likely! LOL At least you know it's back when they still made things in AMERICA.

You either "get it", or you don't. I've got 11 generators now and a Wisconsin AEH with a twin disc PTO. There's all the lawn and garden equipment that I've dragged home from the side of the road. And then there are my cars, car engines, transmissions, rear ends and misc. parts. These are my toys. Men want to have toys just like kids do. It's just that ours tend to be bigger, heavier, noisier, dirtier and more expensive than kids toys. I'm actually kind of surprised that my wife hasn't "lost it" yet.

My sweetie and I were only married a few months (25 years ago and still counting) when I was out in the garage resurrecting some kind of old long dead project, and I came into the house for some reason. In exasperation she proclaimed "Everything men do is noisy and stinky!" I was speechless! Couldn't even think of a comeback from that one.

Thumbs up Re: My family thinks I'm nuts!

Welcome to the club Ronny! You are a member of one of for all we know oldest exclusive male clubs in the known universe. Hello, I am Jack Hallaran.., I am a Rustoholic! (or Gearhead, Enginehead, etc... yeah we have heard Em all...). I must say that I was hooked way back in the day when I cranked over my first engine, (at about nine years old).., and it has been engine love ever since! If the world does not believe us just let them go look at how many members Harry has subscribed on this forum site. A way I look at it the sanity the shop gives me has taken me completely off of the Prozac, the wife is upstairs happily making dinner on Saturdays and she says I sound happy down in the shop clunking around... What's not to love? Wife is happy and so am I! Now we don't need that Marriage counselor anymore either! There is my $.02 on it. It is amazing where some of the greatest things this life we live have availed themselves.
Gentlemen start your engines!
Welcome aboard and enjoy!

Well doing pretty good restored 1975 Deming pump, & HP Briggs 1958 1986 2.5 Onin Gen Working on 1974 Partner K12 saw. After that Get 5 HP Majestic going and Sears & Roebuck Roto Tiller going and that will end my collection of projects. I'm sure I'll find more before I get these finished.
