Default Repainting a 1 HP Famous

Got a very badly repainted Famous. Runs good, but has all kinds of crooked pinstriping and lines added to it. Should I try to take off the ugly paint job, or just sand it down good and repaint? Should I take the engine apart to do it? Let me know what you think. Here's the side of the hopper to give you an idea of what I am dealing with.
