Default Smoky Anderson engine

Hi all

I have a 2hp Anderson built in NZ that smokes really bad iv removed the cylinder and found that the ring gaps where in line with each other so I put them right i ran the engine for about 2 minutes and the smoking started again is there a reason the rings are rotating in the cylinder and how do I fix it as running for 2 minutes it is literally blowing oil out the exhaust

Is there a crankcase vent? Is there a "TIMED" breather valve? I worked on an old Harley Davidson 74ci flathead twin. It smoked like crazy. Ended up we didn't have the breather for the crankcase timed right.

the crank case breather it just a cast iron elbow with some holes in it bolted to the side of the crank case there is no timing needed

Is the breather clear? Did you check the ring gap with only the piston ring inserted in the cylinder? Are the piston rings directional oriented in that could they be upside down?
