Default Steam Traction Engine Operation Course August - September

The Western Development Museum is accepting applications for our annual Steam Traction Engine Operation course. The course will be held over five weekends: August 22-23, August 29-30, September 5-6 (Labour Day weekend), September 12-13, September 19-20 and is based at the WDM Curatorial Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

The WDM has been running the training course since the 1959. The course teaches, in a combination lecture and practical format, traction engine history and development, basic maintenance and safe operation of steam traction engines and familiarizes you with antique steam-powered machinery.

The course prepares the student to challenge the TSASK Limited Power Engineer (Traction) license exam. The course does not cover any industrial power engineering material and will not enable you to challenge any power engineering exam other than the TSASK Limited Power Engineer (Traction) license exam.

For more information on the TSASK Limited Power Engineer (Traction) License please go to TSASK's website.

Students will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience running and firing some of the following steam engines over the length of the course:

110 HP Case
25-85 HP Nichols & Shepard
20-60 HP Case
12-36 HP Case
40-120 HP Geiser
25-75 HP Gaar-Scott
Phoenix Centiped log hauler

For more information on the Western Development Museum’s Steam Traction Engine Operation course, please go to:
