Default Russell Gas Tractors at the National Threshers Show at Wauseon,Ohio

This year NTA is featuring Russell & Co. Equipment (and John Deere tractors & Equipment.) For the first time there will be 4 Russell tractors at the National Thresher Assoc. 65 th. Reunion. We plan on having our 10-20 Russell "Junior" built in 1917 there, also there will be 2 Russell 20-40s and a Russell 30-60
This may be the most Russell Gas tractors ever shown at the same show.I have been told that this will represent 1/3 of the surviving Russell Gas tractors know to exist.
Here is an invitation to all the Lugs and Cleats group as I think this will be of interest to you. No rubber tires on these rare old girls ,Just good old steel wheels !! June 25-28 at Wauseon,Ohio exit 34 , Ohio Turnpike. -------TWD

Thanks Tom! Your tractor really looks nice! I'll get the photos posted tomorrow. They are on my work computer.

Here's the steam thread on NTA that lists the steam engines that are coming. While my steamers are my preference.....the Russell tractors are pretty unique too!

Don't forget the "Stakker" Dinner on Saturday night either. Everyone is welcome. Just bring a dish or if you can't bring food...$$ always works! Guaranteed great time!

Hi

Beth tells me that this Russel will also be at the NTA show and asked me to post the pictures here. Sounds like a good show!

As I know I can't get there, can maybe someone take lots of pics for the rest of us to see?

Thanks a bunch,

No pictures of our 20-40 yet. When I got home from work tonight Kari looked like she had more red paint on her than she put on the tractor! That's OK, she looked about the same way with green paint from the Star this time last year.
Andy and I are still working on the new manifold for the engine. The new radiator is mounted and looks great!
Saturday is going to be a BIG DAY!
Maybe pictures after that. I know she runs OK. The old manifold just fell apart from years of use. Hopefully we won't have to crank her as hard to get her started with this new manifold.

Thomas,

Looking forward to seeing more pictures of your tractor.

Interested in seeing what lettering you did. I had traced the lettering on the one I had. Probably still have some photos somewhere showing the original lettering. Russell certainly painted their name all over the tractor. You couldn't look at the tractor and not see Russell a couple of times.

Wish I'd kept mine, but it has a good home and I got to run it last year.

George

George:
Good to hear from you after all these years. I know I told you 25 years ago but it bears repeating how grateful my brother and I am that you wrote and told us first when you found out she was for sale . She is still 4 miles from the Factory where she was built.
Look forward to any information you might have on her lettering. We went bare basics because of time restraints. The offer still stands for you to take her for a spin. If my math is correct, we only need to own her 33 more years till we will have owned her 1/2 of her existence.
Thanks again , from my brother and I !!! -----TWD

Tom,

I still have the coffee cup with the Russell on it from 1985.

I looked briefly for my old photos of the Russell but didn't find the ones where I had outlined all the letters that were originally painted on mine.

I do know that RUSSELL was painted across the front of the radiator. Was painted on both fenders going down the back side and going down the front side. Was also painted on the sides of the hood and across the back of the frame. I believe it was also painted along both sides of the roof.

Like I said you could see RUSSELL a couple times from any angle!

George:
Went over our radiator ,which we had to replace, real good and did not find Russell on it, do have Russell on rear frame and side of hood. Also know where the decals go. Might add more as you suggest when you find those photos!Never did trust the catalogs. But what else to do.
Loaded, chained down and ready to go to Wauseon. --TWD

Hey Beth, Tom, and everybody,... Finally! Our tractor is RUNNING!

We've been pulling all nighters on her for a week. Saturday night Andy and I were dead tired and discussing the situation. we both agreed that we had a month's worth of work to do in 3 days. We did it! Andy and his pipe fitter buddies finished the new manifold about noon today. Kevin finished the new wood in the platform. Mark and Kari have been painting like crazy. I went through the mag and the carburetor and relined the clutch brake last night and this morning. It felt really good when I cranked her over and she fired and took off about 1:30 this afternoon! I think she runs better than she ever did.
Andy has her loaded and will head to New Palistine to pick up Nick and the 10 hp. The cute little 10 hp and our 20-40 gas tractor will be in Wauseon tonight!
Andy and Kari, and Nick and Jerame will be there tonight.
I have things to catch up on, so Kevin and I will come up Friday evening.
Talk about the paint still being wet when we haul them. Andy is getting the new decals at the show!
No pictures to post right now. They are all on Karie's camera.

See you soon,

Alan

Just wanted to thank everyone at NTA as we had a great time. I never thought I would ever see 4 Russell tractors at one show. As I am more known for my steam interest it was also great to see 20 Russell steamers.
I would like to let everyone know, that has shown interest in the Russell tractors, that there are great photos on the Steam/Traction Heading with links to many great photo of the Russell tractors.Mark Corson has many great Tractor photos there. As the days go on there will be more no doubt.
A big thanks to the New gang for burning the late nite oil to make sure there 20-40 tractor could be there. Thanks to our good friend Earl Scheetz for bringing his 20-40 and hauling our 10-20. A big thank you to Kenny Kass and his Dad Art for coming over from Iowa and bringing there 40-80. My wife and I really enjoyed our ride and visit.
Big thanks to Doug Sheetz and his Family for The great Russell display and letttering our 10-20!! And to my friend John Schrock, thanks again for your help. --------TWD

I too enjoyed seeing all the Russells. It's really nice to see so many tractors with high quality restorations... and their owners not afraid to have some fun and burn off some of the new paint.

I have a video of the 40-80 on the Prony Brake Saturday evening. I'll try to post something this week.

I was wondering if anyone happened to jot down the serial numbers of the Russells, particularly the 40-80.

Thanks, Andrew.
