Default Onan 15.0SC-CR/8388AB looking for opinion

ONAN 15.0SC-3CR/8388AB SER.# I870928065

I am thinking of adding this generator to my collection. Currently have a 30.0 SK, 15.0 JC, 4.0 MCC, 3.0 AJ, & a 1973 2.5 LK. Someday I will get pictures of them all & post. I am sure this Web Site should come with a “Warning Label”, it is like giving a alcoholic a drink.
Is the 15.0SC similar to the JC series of the same size. I am not familer with the SC model, (not that I know much about any of them, but love to tinker & listen to them run). Seems the JC series has a great track record, is the SC series in the same class ?
If Jim Davis is reading, can you tell me from the numbers if this generator was built with a dual fuel carburetor? I have not seen the generator yet, it is about 200 miles away but may take a trip in the near future depending on what the “smart guys” have to say.
Thanks to all who make this site what it is. It is comforting to know I am not the only Onan junkie in the world.

Max, have them confirm the model number - I think you will find it is a JC.

15 KW - 120/240 1ph - YD end - built in Sept. 1987.

A picture is worth 1000 words.

It does look like a JC in the picture I got. Maybe this is why I have not read anything on a SC.
Thanks

That is an understatement - I'll have a double....

Its not that bad, I only have 8 Onan generators on my current GL auction watchlist, and 5 of those are less than 10 miles away. Of course the 3 I would be most likely to bid on are all in the 400 mile away range. 2 of the 5 nearby units are a little larger than I could justify needing (well a little larger than I can justify as a backup for work in place of our 125.0DYD they are in the 150-230 KW range), the other 3 are 345KW, which is A LOT more than I can justify.

Ike

p.s. there is also that other bit about my wife thinking remodeling the kitchen and the living room is more important than another generator (of course she feels the same way about air compressors, boats, and all sorts of other things)

Women gripe about generators and the time/money spent UNTIL the power goes off! When (in my case) you walk outside, hit the start switch, pull the handle on the transfer switch, and walk back inside to a functioning house, they suddenly understand what the thing is for.

I DO NOT have a problem (unless I can't fix this RDJF ).

I did not have ONE complaint from the better half when I bought my $100
4CCK. She still remembers the 6 day power outage we had caused by an ice storm about 3 years ago. I had 2 generators that keep my wife and I and her father in our homes during this time. I now have three more generators than I had then. None of very high capacity but I found that ANYTHING that could generate 60 HZ AC was worth having around. I have a little 300 watt unit that was enough power for a couple to run their pellet wood stove and a light or two. This keep them in their home and keep their pipes from freezing.
