does soap really help fight off moisture in a tool box? thanks

just to add something. years ago, the journeymen machinists would talk about placing a bar of soap in the box to help absorb moisture. maybe they messing with me?

It would depend upon the type of soap - soap containing sodium hydroxide or glycerin has the ability to absorb water but to what extent depend on what else is mixed in with it.

If my kids are anything to go by, it will repel children, thus keeping them out of your tool box.
