Default YouTube 1911 Mode - Perfect for engine video's!

Hello All,

I believe that just for today 01-04-2011 youtube has an optional '1911' mode as this marks the centenary of the viral video.

It is a really great for looking at engine video as the filter suits the period they were built in. I suspect you will only be able to do it today! So best get a couple views in

Here's one of my videos I think looks cool in 1911 mode , you have to enable it by clicking the 1911 button in the bottom right corner of the video.

I also think the youtube logo looks a lot like some Foo's lettering i've seen before, really nice graphics wish youtube looked this way forever. Sorry for not posting in Youtube section but I thought that everbyody should see seeing as its only available today. If you don't see it that way then april fools!!!

Thanks for the tip, Joe.

I agree 100%. No April Fool joke there; that's really cool, the way the frames jump and "scratches" on the "film" make wavering vertical lines on the video presentation.

Maybe if YouTube users started an e-mail campaign they could convince YouTube to keep it as an option? I'm just starting out learning how to edit and compose videos, and I'd certainly like to use their "1911 mode" to enhance some of my "old iron" videos I have planned.

Thanks again for the heads-up.

Yep I know what your saying Bruce, I have played with windows movie maker and you can put sepia filters on video's but all of the scratching and jumping and the little blemishes are awesome! The only thing I miss is sound on Hit and Miss video's, might 'obtain' some more serious video editing software one day and really play with it. Would be nice to have a slower frame rate as well (12/15fps) and play it at 1.5x speed to look more like film. Oh well all idea's for a rainy day!

All engine video's look cool in this mode!!! Whether they are restored or original, I just love it

Thanks Guys and thanks for the hits on my youtube stuff but I am afraid its all gone now .

In the future I will edit some of my own video's to look like that. We are having an open day on Easter Sunday and I will try and get a good 2 minute video of each engine being started and/or running so then I will have lots of stuff to play with. Providing I have a helper I can trust to be camera man

Cya around and keep cranking.
