Default Help on repainting an Onan gas tank

I just bought a AJ 2500 Onan generator, the gas tank paint is not in good shape, the thak is red and the rest on the generator is green. What would be the best steps on repainting the gas tank?
Thanks Mike

Could I use the Onan spray can and then clear coat it? Will the clear coat stand up with gas?
Thanks Mike

i use minwax clear polyurethane gloss or semi gloss in a rattle can to over spray any part of a engine i want to make gas proof . scuff sand the part with a extra fine scotch brite after the finish paint is thoroughly dry, then over spray with two or three light coats of polyurethane. this brings the gloss back and seals the paint. works for me!

Thanks everone for the help, do I have to be real carefull sanding the tank? I did not want to sand too much on the seems because I didnt want any leaks. Are these tanks heavy enough not to worried about this?
