More progress on RI. Finished making up hitch after a day of cutting, drilling. Removed steering and controls rods as they were all cut by the front wheels. Welded the cuts and ground smooth. Removed wheels and made up new kingpins(bolts)and installed new bushings. Tierods will get new bushings and bolts.
Need to sort out how arm out of steering box is connected. It is real sloppy and slips on square shaft.

Gary....I lightened up the pictures for you. It looks like you had good results on your hitch repair.

Battery choked in my good camera. Used my old one but it does poor job in low level luminance. Hitch was more of a challenge than I realized. It has a special twist to make it true.

I thought I had posted to this thread but apparently not. I acquired a Rock Island model FA about two years ago. Relatively complete but missing some parts. We have been on the track of parts and yesterday checked with a friend not too far away. Two Rock Island tractors found and an extra Buda block with crank, cam and some gears in it. Since I have finally gotten my Caterpillar Twenty (L 33) running the way I want it I can start on the Rock Island. My grandfather had a F/FA during WWII and used it to run the portable saw mill. One of these day I will get around to scanning the pictures and posting them. I will still need one or two small parts to borrow to have made but the project now seems to be doable. Is there a source for decals? Thanks.

For the BEST, and probably only, decals go to Lyle Wacker.
His contact info is on this archived website page >>> http://www.oocities.org/wackerdecals/

I bought some from Lyles wife a few years ago. Very disappointed in them, they were improperly stored so were creased and they had inaccuracies compared to the originals. at the time I got one of the last sets of rock islands she had. I had a run of my own made starting from scratch that I am pretty happy with. I really should look at doing another run, I know a few people wanted them, but then I got to moving and didn't get another run made. they weren't cheap.
