Default Keeping Active Backups of our Data Files

Backing up the Smokstak and Enginads site data is a pretty important function. Right now, we have private network off-site NAS (network attached storage) located at a separate data facility. I'm not completely confident with those results, although we do store daily, weekly and monthly copies.

I'm now looking into R1-Soft (now Idera) to solve this issue. This requires a separate server on the private network for storage, but I will be able to remove the existing NAS at some savings in the process. And this second server is no slouch...

Quad Core Xeon 3220 - 2.40GHz
CentOS 6.0 (64 bit)
4 GB DDR2 667
500GB SATA II
uplink 1000 Mbps Public & Private Networks
Reboot / KVM over IP
R1Soft CDP 3.0 Enterprise (Linux)
R1Soft MySQL Backup 1 Pack
R1Soft Disk Agent 1 Pack

It comes with 5 Gigabytes of monthly bandwidth on both networks and as a result, they are also upgrading our current server bandwidth from 3G to 5G. I think that I will be able to temporarily do manual backups the same as on NAS so it should be immediately effective.

In case you haven't figured it out, this is all deep do-do for this old duff. I've always said that you never stop learning in the world of computers. If you told me ten years ago that I'd have servers in a virtual private rack, I would have said you're nuts!

Any Information Technology Gurus out there want to comment?

This is all placed into service and activated today. As I said, it's deep do-do for this old duff. So, I hired it done!
