Default Impact of flywheel width on dyno

Here's my favorite McLaren Road Locomotive Boadicea pulling on the dyno. Several thoughts:
  • That has to be fun (NOT) to belt with such a narrow flywheel.
  • I wonder if it would pull more hp than 100 if the flywheel was wider so they could use a wider belt? ..especially as it operates at like 210 psi (if my memory serves)
  • Is the noted "100 hp" on the same scale as ours?
  • That safety valve impeded my ability to hear the engine work.
  • Does anyone know how this "dyno" compares to our dynos & prony brakes over here?

Default Re: Impact of flywheel width on dyno

A wider belt will transmit more power and would help only if the belt slips as it did right at the end but I suspect it slipped on the dynomometer end as that pulley is much smaller in diameter.
