Default John Deere D Restoration

Hi everyone.
I have posted in the classifieds but thought I would post here too. I'm looking for an unstyled D project tractor. Does anyone have one or know of something that might be for sale? Earlier the better, ideally full steel, mostly complete and free but will consider anything.
Hopefully this will turn into a restoration thread!

Have you checked with Gary at Beiwers. They are sponsors here and very good people to deal with. He can arrange shipping for you also. Check out their website for some of their inventory. Jim

I have spoken to Gary a few weeks ago. Ideally I'm looking for a '26/'27 tractor, I'm not sure what he has at the moment, earliest is a '28 I think.
Doubt I can afford anything earlier than that as much as I would love a spoker I don't know of any basket case ones out there.

I would like to thank everyone who has made contact. I have spoken to some great people and found a few tractors all of which I would love. Unfortunately the more I looking into it the higher the costs were going, I received a tip off on a tractor already this side of the pond and it's now on its way.
As promised this thread can now become a restoration thread!

I look forward to seeing your updates on the process. What year did you finally end up getting?

I too am looking for an unstyled D. I have a beat on a 30 on steel (for a price I can afford), but it's about 4 hours away and it seems every weekend that I would be able to go and look at it, the weather has been horrible. It requires a trip through Toronto (Canada's biggest city for people AND traffic), so if the weather isn't great, it's not a risk I'm willing to take at this time.

It's back home! Got a 1928. I would still like to get an earlier one but it's nice, pre '30 was what I was looking for too so it ticks that box. Needs quite a few parts though..

Well, here we go!
I have been round the tractor today before we unloaded it, there are a few more parts that it needs than first thought. Quite a bit of damage too. Big things needed are the mag and a carb as the bowl has been brazed. I'd also like to change the front wheels back to steel.
Other parts damaged and also welded or brazed are the brake pad, mag mounting, gear selector housing, manifold, broken wing support, drawbar, clutch lever and small levers, damaged and missing lugs, and there are many missing bolts. The sump plugs are also missing after shipping and there is a tap fitted to the side of the gearbox?! A lot of worn parts too especially in the steering. The engine turns but very stiff and we think the clutch may be seized, can't thrown the lever over centre.
I may have sourced an air intake box but need a stack and have a seat on its way, still need the bracket and steering wheel.

Some pictures for you all to laugh at..! What have I taken on!
