Please explain "cut 4th" ? Are you feeding by hand or using the lead screw?

How sharp is your cutting tool?

No idea what 4000 is.

4 thousandths cut is expressed as .004", and the Atlas with 1hp motor and using the lead screw should cut that like butter without bogging, assuming your tool is sharp. Now if you are trying to cut .400" (four hundred thousandths) you are trying to take too big of a cut, although you might make it work with brass or nylon, but you WILL need to feed by hand. DO NOT use the lead screw for hogging cuts.

Keep in mind that if you take .200" cut, you are reducing the diameter of your work piece by .400".

So again, please clarify.
