Default 2017 Threshermens Reunion, Austin Manitoba

Well, 2017 at Austin has come and gone, another great show and catching up with good friends and making more memories.

This year featured John Deere, so we had a good display and crowd for that.

On the steam side (since this is a steam forum), things certainly went well. The sawmill and related display was working pretty steady, keeping a few engines belted up all the time. We had a variety of dyno's as well, and it's fun to listen to the engines bark back at each other. It's great to see so many engines with family teams too. Lots of like-minded people looking to help each other have a good time.

This year, to celebrate Canada's 150th, we did a large, multi-engine spark show! It even made the radio and the newspapers: https://www.portageonline.com/local/...-sparkler-show

A month earlier, the steam school for the Steam Association of Manitoba was at capacity, and that was reflected with many more new faces smiling around the steamers. Even better, they were all tired - and still smiling - by the end of the week.

And with a few more engines coming online through the winter, the steam aspect of the show - and for that matter across the province - continues to grow and thrive. Wow, we even have 3 engines brought in from other provinces to be repaired here, and they will likely be sticking around after repairs are done here. In fact, we're considering some major changes at the museum that will help the steam part of the show become more active through-out the day.

Attached are a few pictures. I honestly didn't take many - too busy - and that's not a bad thing.

We all thought that we'd be burned out from last year's threshing record, but that certainly wasn't the case. The seeds for another ambitious project were planted, but it's big enough that we may need to negotiate for some neighbouring land!!

Already looking forward to the Reunion in 2018!

It seems that Dave Rose and I have the same tailor... (Second photo is myself, our friend Dave, and my son Max, a budding engineer if ever there was one!).

If you haven't made it out to the Austin show yet, why not put 2018 on your calendar? It's a great time with great people, and the steam world just keeps growing and growing. I can think off hand of at least 3-4 engines in the area that should be at the show within the next few years

Some of our pictures from the 2017 Reunion. If we look hot, well... it was hot!

This was first year that I was able too attend the reunion at Austin. I have never seen so many running in one place before! Met many who I've have heard of or had telephone conversations, great pleasure to be able too put face's with names!

Hoping in a couple of years I'll be able have my Case 50hp at Austin.

It is great to see the younger people on the steam engines.

Yes it is... although the two words I've heard most since coming back have been "Steamer go! Steamer go!".

Canadacase, look forward to seeing you and your engine out in Austin at some point! What year is your 50?

It's a 1916 engine.
