Default Atlas Lathe

I have a 12x36'' lathe & on the lathe the cross slide lever it will not stay up when using the lathe it falls and trays go into gear are there a detent ball & spring

Yes, there should be a ball and spring that falls into a detent. It should click when going from one position to the other.

Are you talking about the half nut lever? There is a spring and detent iv got a video that showshe the hole half nut setup https://youtu.be/73qaysLIAng hope this helps

Not an unusual antic for Atlas lathes... happens on the leadscrew direction control box, too... and when it drops into gear while the machine is running, it tends to break parts...

Doesn't the cross slide have a screw with dial?
Do you have some sort of production turret lathe or something else?
