Default Tapered Split Bushings

Anyone ever look for the tapered split bushings used on the axles of many older trucks? I need to replace some on a truck I'm working on and was shocked at what I found on ebay. They cost a fortune per bushing. I remember the days of working on old Fords and sometimes we would throw them out by the handful. What could possibly cost so much in making a little tapered split bushing? Any one know where to buy them reasonably?

Tom, not anymore, Studebaker's also had them on the rear ends. 3/4 and 1 ton rear ends all had them.

I think they are talking about these:
$27 for a pack of 25, not so expensive

Are you asking about these?

If you are I have made my own.
wrap a piece of paper around the taper to make a pattern.
Use any steel shim stock you think will do the job.

Hi Team,
maybe this is what you are talking about.
We used them in many Industrial engine drive applications when I worked at the Cat Dealer way back when.
If I recall correctly they were or we called them Fenner-Dodge Taper-lock Couplings.

We'll have to wait for Tom to post back, but the type I posted a picture of are widely used on axles shafts in full floating type axles.

They vary in size but many are easy to come by at a Euclid (Meritor) dealer or on line at various retailer.
Some of the adds on E-bay are selling one for the price of a package. Likely the seller needed one, and bought a whole package that they are selling off at package price.
Unfortunately, not an uncommon occurrence on Ebay.
You can look them up in this catalog and then enter the part number into a search for am online supplier.
Goggle search "Meritor wheel end catalog"

Cornbinder, those are the ones. I couldn't find that quantity listed. It just said quantity 1. I'll check again , but they come in two lengths so I will investigate and see what I can find. That price isn't bad and maybe I read the add wrong, because I thought it was per bushing. Thanks for helping out and I will post back with my findings.

Cornbinder, I call the supplier on the ones I found and they stated a price of almost 18 bucks apiece. Where did you find the ones that you posted?

what size do you need? the one I posted is for the smallest size.
If you post the measurements shown in the above picture, I'll get you an Euclid number and may be a price quote.
Shouldn't work out to much more than a $1 per unit, but may have to buy in lots of 25

Here is one place and they list a bunch of sizes. Sold in lots of 25 but still not bad

Cornbinder, I just ordered some from VanHorn. They sold them individually so I ordered 32 of them. With shipping it was $45 bucks, so more like I expected. Thanks so much for the info.

Glad I could be of help. I run 25+ year old trucks in OTR service. I have become very good a sourcing odd or older parts out of necessity.
Before the age of the internet it would be so much harder to find some of these parts.
