Default C.H. Wendel

The old tractor hobby has lost a great researcher and author.

He gave me my first real information about the history of farm tractors. Sure, most of it came obviously from the red tractor book and such, but I didn't have access to those until much later. Even so, he had to research and compile, much appreciated.

I can't count how many hours I have spent reading his books. Sad to hear of his passing. May he R.I.P.

RIP Charles. I offer my Deepest Sympathy to Charles' family and Friends. I had the pleasure of meeting Charles on a tour to the USA with Don Macmillan. He was a true gent and the Tractor and Engine Movement has lost a greater researcher and author

American Farm Tractors and 150 years of IHC: two of my favorites from over 30 years ago. I still occasionally browse both books, and still seem to compare the writing style of any old iron books to the works of Mr. Wendel!

Rest in peace.

There were a few old tractors around here when I was a kid - Eagles and Rumelys. I remember the names Titan and Mogul from the Brantford Dominion Day parade.
I was only marginally interested.
However, about 1980, I was given a copy of C.H. Wendel's Encyclodepia of American Farm Tractors, which was just out in 1979. That book opened up the world of antique farm tractors for me. Who knew there were so many makes and different makers?
Mr. Wendel knew.
That was the beginning for me. In a couple of years, I had an OilPull and an Eagle!
I still have that old green tractor book and have looked after it like it was gold. I refer to it almost daily.
Thank you Mr. Wendel for all that you have done. May you rest in Eternal Peace.
RM.

First one I bought was "150 years of International Harvester.", the covers have since detatched from the binding from hours of service.
