I figured Beth V And many others would be happy to see this tiny little clip of Alexander Liz operating the newly restored Port Huron.

I'll let Lizzy fill in the details. But I will say that she will be all steamed up for the Steam Rally in Alexander NY. Sept 9-12 2010.

Looks great!!! Can't wait for the steam rally!!!

We had our ESP tractor pull this past saturday. One of our traditions during any pulling event is to have a tug of war between all the kids and a steam traction engine. Steve Harris had brought his steamer from Pageant of Steam a couple of weeks ago to have it here for the "Sneaker Pull". Liz's engine got on the grounds Sat Morning with a head of steam because they had loaded it on the transporter under its own power.
Liz's Port Huron performed for the "Sneaker Pull". I don't know who won because I was still busy with the gate crew. The weather was perfect and we had a very satisfactory attendance. Congratulations Liz.

Here's Liz and her Port Huron shortly after the fire was dropped late Saturday afternoon.

Congrat's Liz - you've got yourself a beauty! Looking forward to watching it run at the Rally Sept 9 - 12.

Thanks Steve & Bob for posting the photo and video. My parents and I spent a lot of hours (and have many more to go before it's really finished) getting the engine painted and piped, but are really glad it's running now. It's PH engine #8557, from 1920. It's a 19-65 HP longfellows. Thanks to everyone that has helped us with this project and given us encouragement to get the new boiler. We are still working the bugs out, and we can't wait to see what it can really do.

Liz,

It looks good. Have you requested a copy of the construction records from Dave Kemler yet? They will tell you how & when it came out of the factory...he can also tell you how many gallons of paint it took. Mine was "raven black."

Being a 1920, you have the red engine & wheels with white striping while mine is a 1917 (a war baby) and it all black with silver striping. The SN plate is black with gold lettering, although I have seen some with it all bronze. The 1920 catalog should reflect what your striping design is. Canopy is supposed to be green, but mine is still red...

I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing its progress! It takes a village to get them done! ..next comes a jacket?!?!

Best of Luck!

Beth

Congratulations on getting your engine running. It looks nice. 19's are nice handling engines, my favorite. You will be pleased with how easy it steams with or without a load on it.

Mine is also a 1920, number 8537. It was all black from the factory with silver detailing stripes.

Have fun.

Ask the User,

Whoops I thought they went back to the red & black color scheme in 1920? What color is your 16 supposed to/going to be?

Oh well, as long as we love & care for our engines!

Beth

I got info from Dave K, and he said that mine was black & red with white pinstriping. He even had a supplier for the correct shade of red paint. We still have to get to the drive wheels and gear shields/covers and all the spots on the engine that we missed, so that will be next springs project.

I got copies of the build sheets and they finished it up the end of Sept, beginning of Oct 1920, but it didn't get shipped out to the first owners until spring of 1921.

No jacket for this one, too much work, and the NY inspectors don't like them for the external inspections.

When you get your drivers painted, take some photos of the engine out in a field or belted up to something and submit them for the 2012 calendar.
