Default Vintage Onan air compressor

I came across this interesting piece of equipment. It is a gas powered air compressor by Onan. From what I can make out on the data plate the Model #- (NHV?) - MS/2957B Serial # - G75311930.

Iíve attached three pictures of the unit. Iím trying to research this air compressor. If you have familiarity with this machine or can direct me to a resource Iíd be appreciative. Iíve tried the search tool on Smokstack, an Onan website, and a general search on a web browser coming up with -0- information. Itís time to call on the experts😁.
Thank you.

Maybe a NHPV industrial engine, here's an operator manual:
http://www.skilledcrafting.com/onanf...20(7-1975).pdf

There a few other manuals in there

Thumbs up Re: Vintage Onan air compressor

Thank you, gnucklehead, for the link to the manual. Iím going to check the others out as well.

Anyone else ever come across an air compressor with an Onan gas engine? I believe the whole unit is manufactured and distributed under the Onan name. No luck on the Cummins/Onan site and no response yet from my inquiry.

I am trying to find a time where the seller and I can meet to give it a good look-see. Appreciate any additional info, comments, or suggestions that may lead to locating more information on this unit.

I really do not think that this is a factory setup. If it were, there would be no jerry-rigged belt tensioner, and there would be an air cylinder on the throttle of the carburetor to auto-idle the engine when up to pressure. The compressor appears to be an Ingersoll Rand.

Several years ago I was picking up a Quincy 350 compressor from a gentleman in south eastern Pennsylvania. He had what looked like an Onan NH which was half engine/half compressor. To this day I have not seen another like it, and he had two of them just sitting there. I have no idea who built them like that.

Thanks for your input, Chris. Iíve been looking at the manuals that gnucklehead led me to and I was close on the letters on the data plate. They should be NHPV - MS. There are a few manuals that have the designator NHPV. Iím not 100% sure what that all means but Iím excited and itching to go check this unit out. The seller said it was his father-in-laws who had just passed away. It was last operated a year and a half ago. If I can acquire it I will take my time in getting all the maintenance up to date and then fire her off. I actually plan to use it! Iíll pass more info when I actually get to see it!

Thanks!

The air compressor is much bigger than expected! Weighs more than 1,000 lbs. Unfortunately, I have no means to move this unit.

Well, Hazard Fraught Tools should be able to fix you up.

They have folding shop cranes and cheap furniture dollies...

If your vehicle isn't up to the task, you can take the machine apart into it's basic components. Where there's a will there's a way. Been there done that.

Or do what I did, hire a rollback.

The guy I bought my Quincy 350 compressor from had a Kubota 4 wheel drive tractor and said that he would have no problem loading it. Of course when I showed up, he hooked up the compressor and motor on the tank and began to lift. The compressor sat on the ground and the rear wheels of the Kubota went right up in the air. Between the 120 gallon tank weighing nearly 600lbs, the compressor at 650lbs and the motor at 190lbs, I did not think that tractor had the snot to move it all together, but it did in pieces.
