What I did was I invested some of my small pension money ..... that way if I lost at least I wouldn't have to pay the IRS taxes on the loss portion.

When I bought GE in price drop of the great recession of ~ 2009 , I picked GE because it was a strong large company. I was concerned in having a strong enough company to still be in existence after the recovery ....just in case economy turned into another great depression (like in the 1930's ). In great depression lot of companies went out of business..... and my investment would be worth $0

There were some big and old companies that failed during that big recession. Most famous one is probably Lehman brothers. 134 years and then gone. Surprised a LOT of people. Several other big investment banks ended up no longer being independent too.

AIG almost went under too, and they are either the largest, or at least one of the largest insurance companies in the world. We use some of their utility insurance services for work (they have a group the does insurance for utility companies).

I believe AIG sold insurance guarantees backing up annuities , banks and other big companies or shares of those companies...... was a big problem when those large insurance claims appeared as those companies failed. .....dominos....

Went to bed late last night, turned on TV for a little down time. Saw a Generac 30 minute ad. Forced myself to listen, just to hear their CLAIMS.....

On it was a lot of different older married couples ... supposedly happy customers saying how happy they were with having reliable dependable power that their Generac provides. Showed a nat gas/propane powered gen outside their fancy homes, all automatic.

I heard a LOT of claims of dependable power from CUSTOMERS, NOT claims by Generac. That's a LEGAL distinction that it is customer's OPINION that it's reliable, not Generac's legal claim of reliability.

Then at end another LEGAL distinction, credits rolled up saying program was put on my some 3-rd party company , NOT Generac. That further distances Generac from all these claims of reliability ( potential false advertising). Sounds like they have some good lawyers advising them how to advertise and how to not make claims themselves, that could be used against them in court.

PS..... friend wondered if with all these TV claims and new sales then when they start failing if there will be a class action suit against them. Will be interesting to see how that plays out, it is California after all, land of the protected consumer.

I'm pretty disappointed in engine design of broken new looking 5kw Generac I got free on craigslist, previous owner said it had very few hours on it. Guess they figured they couldn't afford an extra bolt or pin to hold pushrod guide plate with SHARP edges . It got loose and rotated, rubbing on ALUMINUM !! pushrod till it wore & snapped in 2 and engine went dead. So much for reliability, sounds like a bad design in my opinion.

Looks like generac was up another $2.50 today.... was hoping for a pull back so could buy it cheaper.

Real question is what to sell it at.

I looked at it with thought of selling puts. It is thinly traded.
Listed options are over 1 month!!
11/15, then 12/20.
Most securities have weeklies.
Too much can happen in 5 weeks, and with low volume, probably will not be able to exit when want to.

I don't know enough to do puts and calls.

I bought GE at ~ 8, went to ~ 30, I felt good , now back down to ~ 12
Thought I was going to make a killing, now it's just an OK profit.
