Would you believe that "horse's patoey" is still keeping us in the dark. At first it was fun - now I want the spark to jump from his pointed head as I put it between the upcoming cylinder and the top of the head (his head).

I think you all are hitting on it as close as we can get - it the bolt was insulated, that would definitely work - and, I think, that the spark will jump if it first jumps from the sparkplug wire a short distance to the block (to not lose much voltage) and then from the pointed bolt to the cylinder as it approaches top dead center.

The observation that the spark plug is OVER the top of the cylinder and not the valves is a key here also, I would think. It would certainly help.

Perhaps the "geru" (not anymore in my book) will stop being so "cutesy" and give us what he observed in the engine someone brought to him to demo this.

In the meantime, i think our heads have created a logical answer - and it's been too hot for me to go out and duplicate it - when it cools off!

Hey, you folk are good sports - this has been fun (except for horse's geru)

Hello iam reading this post and the the one with the sparkplug wire sitting on the head is possible. but iam sure it would run like a hit and miss. but if you look at that onan generator i posted that will run on one cylinder, starting cold. because its got one set of points. to run both cylinders.and when i was working on getting it going i forgot to put one of the wires on and she still fired up and ran. plus my thoughts is the head gaskit is not perfect solid ground. . try it out on some lawn mower it meight work as long as there is nothing conected to the head. thats my opion DAN

sorry for the tardynes in this reply but i lost the page and just found it agen.
but im a little confused all ive ever ben tought about electricity was that it sirches for the shortest and most unubstructive whay back home (weather it be ground or the + to - side of a batery) so how does puting a conector on the main wire and solidly conecting it to ground work. thanks dont mean to step on any ones toes.

We don't know yet the real answer. The "geru" is being the south end of the north going horse.

Grounding the spark plug wire will short it right then - that won't work. But, if you allow the spark to jump a very short distance, it will still have enough voltage to travel and jump a second time - maybe from the pointed bolt in the spark plug hole to the piston at near top-dead-center.

That's as far as we are so far.
