Default Fleury machine- What does it do.

What is the use for this machine in the attached pictures. The is no cranking handle and/or motor with it and I would like to find out how it was powered back in the day.

Thank you!

I think it is a silage or feed cutter that is missing the flywheel and blades that would have been on that shaft in front in your first picture.

I think that is what is called a fodder cutter. Used mainly to cut corn stalks up to use as feed.

Here is an ad from 1913. Sorry about quality, it is in a big bound set of 1913 farm magazines so very hard to handle on the scanner.
Note, this is from a John Deere Plow Co. ad, which states, "Selling the 'Fleury Line' Wins the Trade." Deere sold Fleury products in western Canada.
A number of Ontario companies made these. I have a similar model made by B. Bell & Sons Co. of St. George, Ontario.

In my first picture you can see a shaft with a big nut on the end. A belt pulley and the big flywheel with knives must have been on that shaft as per attached ad.
