Question Case 480D Injection Pump

working on this for a neighbor with cancer, he is trying to get his affairs in order if you know what i mean. "cancer is winning" where would be a cheap source for a injection pump? his is a roosamaster if i spelled that right. his pump is shot the housing is falling apart. it has a drain plug in the bottom and the plug just fell out, I found the plug and the threads on the pump housing just turned into powder. He has the manuals on the tractor and i have looked thru them some time back, and the best i recall the shaft can stay in the engine with the aid of some special pliers and making sure a hole in the shaft is lined up with the pump. Thats all off of memory and that was close to 2 years ago when i looked thru the books so i could be foggy on that!

I believe you will find that Standadyne bought out the old Roosa Master line. They improved them slightly and continue to build them for quite a while.

I may have a lead in TX Thanks to a member here, wont know anything before monday. Diesel shops around here are outrageious! the last mechinical pump and injector rework for a ford 4 cylinder was $3800! and his only complaint was a leak and it had the same damn leak when i put it back on! I wound up fixing the leak, It had a scored fitting.

I was quoted $550 for standard rebuild or $650 for using heavy duty parts for my 580 case backhoe, ( D-188 engine,--Standyne pump). ---I never got the pump off, ---yes its a hell of a job! The shaft has 2 cup seals that face opposite directions that are very hard to install. One faces the fuel pump side and the second faces engine oil side. From my books, ( I have factory Case books) the shaft and timing gear stays in the engine, BUT what if it moves and jumps teeth when pump is slid out??
I cant find timing marks on the flywheel like the book shows either so mine has been sitting for 6 years in the shed in the way.

sonny, I have never been into a case and i have the case books too. I have however been into john deere and ford. both the jd and ford there was no issues with the drive gear skipping a tooth and getting out of time. on those two the timing cover was so close there was no way possible the timing gear could move. well there is always the possibility of something stupid happening, like somebody trying to spin the motor over with the starter while you have it down. I am hoping to find a complete pump and just swap.

DB2-3953 on this page. You're not gonna find a better price for a reman...

core charge is pretty tough, but if your core is good, you're OK.

This site lists the number, but no price or availability.
