I just got this generator and I do not have any history other
than I knew the engine runs good but no out put from the
generator.I have it apart now and have some questions.

The stator has 7 wires out of it ,
2 black , 2 white , 2yellow and 1 blue .

I have continuity wire to another wire except one of the yellow
wires . This wire goes to a diode but not the diode that is fried,
that diode got hot enough to melt the solder but the insulation
on the wire is OK.

Should I have continuity in that yellow wire ? What would fry
the diode ? The Capacitor is bad ,leaking, thought that might
just be age . The generator has set for ??? and I have cleaned the
surface rust off the Rotor and if I can separate it from the
crankshaft I will have it checked with a growler. Any thing
else that I need to check to know if it is worth fixing?

The typical wiring of these units:

Two power output windings - 120v each. Each winding has one black and one white wire. The windings should have no continuity to each other or ground, and no continuity to the exciter winding. Each winding should read approximately 0.5 ohm.

The exciter winding has three wires, two yellow and one blue. The blue is a center tap. The winding should read open to ground. You should read maybe 0.5 to 1 ohm from blue to each yellow, and 1 to 2 ohms yellow to yellow. Each yellow wire goes to the cathode of a diode.

black to white .7 ohms
black to white .7 ohms
yellow to blue 1.3 ohms
yellow to blue 0 ohms
yellow to yellow 0 ohms

What now ?I do not see that any of the windings have
gotten hot or any other damage. A bad connection and
is it repairable? Looks like I have a spare engine for the
Homelite 3000-1 ,got both for $75 a month ago ,they
have the same 8 HP Briggs. The accuracy of my volt/ohm
meter is not know at this time .
