Getting close to show time!!! Today we started to put our float together for the upcoming parades that we will participate in to advertise the show... also we are doing live history for the fourth grade, so we decided to kill two birds with the proverbial one stone! We'll swap the mill out for a flat belt powered washing machine for the parades.

More work getting ready for the show! Today we worked on Lauren's FBM 60hp Model N. The engine originally sat on a cement pedestal. As that is not real mobile, Lauren previously added a fabricated stand. Then he came up with this design that follows the shape of the OEM lower engine bases. While it is not cast iron, the steel it is made from is well aged and looks amazing!

Making the new base enables us to hide the fuel tank under the engine. Note the fuel tank filler (upper fitting) and drain (lower fitting) at the rear of the engine.

Today we worked on routing the fuel lines. First we needed to get fuel to the pump (lower right). This required drilling a 5/8 hole through the new base to run the 3/8 brass hard line through. The hole for the line from the pump to the carb is factory (upper left).

Plumbing from the fuel tank to the pump is done with soft copper tubing as this significantly simplifies the whole process.

The carburetor is plumbed with a hardline from the pump to to the inlet side, again the hole for this line is original (upper right). The return line (lower left) is also brass that is plumbed in through the base, the 5/8 hole for it had to be added.

For the return line to the tank, we again used soft copper. As seen here the line feeding the carb is brass. This line was previously made, so we saw no reason to replace it.

As we work on other projects, I'll post "show ready" updates to this thread.

Great! We look forward to having you here!

Pulled another out of the deepest and darkest corners of Lauren's Barn, this one is another pint sized (like the Handy Andy my eldest runs). This engine will be run by my 2nd oldest.

An Ideal Lawn Mower H&M engine. Built new skids from some rough sawn oak I've been hiding, fixed up a fuel tank I'd been saving for something "real nice," plumbed and then wired it up. It fired right off (ok there was some cleaning involved too...)

And a test start for the engineer that will be operating it

I need to round up some 1/2" flat leather belting for the fan and some 1/8" grease cups for the crank... maybe get a blacksmith I know to make some fancy handles for the skids....

Worked on the Float for Twin Falls Western Days today! Western days are this weekend with the parade Saturday morning! Should be a great opportunity to advertise our show!
