"...and you have access to one, is to use a forklift."

Uh huh, but first, if you have access to one, drive it onto a lift . It makes it much easier to get to the exhaust system and to remove the bolts, then go get your forklift and simply lower the unit to a convenient working height and...

Doesn't everyone that has an RV have a capable lift and a fork lift?
I used my Kubota B3200 to install my 4BGE into the front compartment of my 5th wheel. Still had to muscle it a bit!

I had someone helping me, and we were able to drop the generator in 2 or 3 hours. We used a a scissor jack with a 9" x 15" platform rated for 1,000 lbs. It was positioned to match the orientation of the generator (long side with long side, short with short).

Started by disconnecting the deep cycle battery on the RV then disconnected the wires and fuel line from the generator. We left the outgoing electrical wire attached, as there was ample slack. We also didn't mess with the exhaust.

I had set up a platform with high weight castors, but it lifted the jack too high. I didn't have a great way of lifting the RV, so we ended up just dropping the generator straight down and propping up the cover with 2x4's. That provided enough space to access the starter from under the RV.

It turned out the arcing wire had ruined the post, so I had to order a starter and wait a few days for it to arrive. Installing the starter didn't provide any difficulties, and we did the above in reverse to get the generator back in the RV. I went ahead and replaced the mounting bolts (the nuts were welded to the brackets and left in place). It took about 2 hours.

Total time was 4 or 5 hours for 2 people and ended up costing about $200, which included the jack. Generator is currently cranking without any issues.
