Default Fire Fox Problems

Starting yesterday, for some unknown reason, my Firefox browser doesn't want to open. The couple times it did open it took forever. I've tried to uninstall it, but it won't uninstall. I even tried a System Restore, but that didn't help either. Had to go back to IE for surfing. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm using Windows XP. I guess I should mention that when it did open, everything seemed to work good.

As soon as you click on the FF shortcut open task manager and click the CPU heading (Probally twice) to see what tasks are using up the most CPU time. Might give you some ideas.

Have you tried deleting the cache? Sometimes this will help to cure problems. Tools>clear private data

OK, here's the deal. I did as Kimbra Dean suggested and for some reason FF was taking up all my CPU usage and not doing anything. My usage was around 4% until I hit FF then shot up to 100% and stayed there. So, I updated FF from 3.4 to 3.5. After that FF would start, a little slow, but at least it didn't take 1/2 hour plus like before. I rebooted then went through some stuff in my system tray and dumped them. Things are running a lot better now.

Wayne: I do try to keep on top of the cache, cookies thing. As a matter of fact I dumped that stuff last week when I had problems logging onto my banking site using FF. Still couldn't do it after that and ended up using IE instead. Couple days later I logged on with no problems using FF.

Craig: Guess I should have mentioned that I'm using Windows XP Home Edition.

Thanks to all for you help.

For some reason, Firefox seems to be 'picky' about computer configurations.

We have the older V2.2.4 on one machine, and the latest V3.4 on another. Both work fine, but we seem to have more issues with the later versions than the older one.

Firefox say that there will be no more updates on the older V2 after December 2008.
