The Australian moveable coultral heritage act reads If there is another make /model in similar or better condition in public display in Australia then there is no reason to prevent an export permit. If it can be proven to have significant local historical value or connection to a prominent Australian, there maybe a case to prevent export, but this would need someone to prove this connection. I personally believe there should be maybe a slightly higher count than one other in public display, but I see no reason to prevent the likes of common Bulldogs leaving our shores when there was in excess of 170000 of them come here, and as has been stated before the ships go both ways.

Norm, does anyone know of another surviving engine like this in Australia? I would just like to see some pictures of what this neat engine looks like complete. I've seen the original ad, but it only provides so much detail.

Sorry Jeff I am mostly a tractor man and are not real familiar with stationary engines and who has what.I only know about the heritage act because I have been a little involved in both import and export with fellow private collectors.

Well guys….Its Friday…..my working week is not over but time for some fun anyways………So….lets break this deal down a little it terms of real value $ wise based on its current bids.

US/ AU$ OF COURSE….

Rusty Crank case $40,000

Rusty Piston and rod and big end $5,000

Rusty bearing caps $2500ea…I think it’s only fair we inc the main bearings shells here

Rusty Crank shaft $5,000

Rusty Side shaft $5,000

Rusty Mechanical oiler $2500

Rusty Associated scrap parts as shown $1000

Untreated? Pallet it sits on (free) should you want it!

Regardless …..the truth is I personally reckon this is an extremely good deal and not to be sneezed at….lol…….I’m only aware of one other complete Tangye Inverted....that I saw back in 2007...pictured in this thread also…there may someone more worldly watching here that could educate us all to the contrary?, However if compared to Crossley inverted engines (maybe 30 plus saviours?)….this Tangye basket case is top of the range (ENGLISH) iron (my view) and the likely hood of another opportunity of this significance presenting itself any time soon is extremely unlikely….but then what would I know?........

Yep…they don’t call Australia “The Lucky county for nothing”

If I had the funds on hand I would bid with vigour and quit all my lesser toys….Sadly….alas I don’t so it’s up to the deep pocket boys to entertain us….Kiwi Todd
PS…….I have never meet or corresponded with the seller, however I feel he owes me a beer…..his call…..

Not bad for something that was found laying around on the farm.

All I've found on my property is pieces of broken china that comes up out of the ground once in a while.

I know who's bought the Inverted Tangyes and it staying in Australia. I will not tell you the guy's name who bought it, but it's gone to a good home. Regards from Geoff McCarten.
