The guy is possibly just a little ahead of his time. When Dad and started collecting tractors and engines in the 1970s we laughed at the idea that someday people would probably start collecting rubber tired tractors like the 1941 John Deere D and the 1949 Farmall A that we farmed with!LOL

You probably could not belive that at one time there was only ONE rubber tire tractor at Antique Powerland (at that time it was just refered to as the Steam -Up grounds) it was a F-20 that was cut down and put on rubber.

I still have a letter from a guy asking $700.00 for a large sideshaft Bullseye----- what was HE Smokin- anyone KNOWS you don't pay more than about $100.00 for a REALLY GOOD engine! Yup- I'm a old fart now!

We laugh now but that is a VERY valid point. That's been a very realistic fact even for engines selling of 5 to 10 years ago.

John Deere??- WTF?? It must be extremely rare if it's an "Internation LB 3 HP John Deere". Maybe this is the deal of the century!!

The only similarity between the two is that they're two of the most common engines out there.

Personally I think an International LA or LB is and always will be a $100.00 engine at the most. They have No Style, No Personality, Nothing interesting to watch when they're running, about as entertaining as a modern lawnmower engine covered in plastic shrouds.

BUT, They Are Good for making tractor models to drive around on as they have the right sound to them and the single solid flywheel works well for some tractor brands.

I have seen them bring up to 400.00 and I thought that was crazy I was a nice guy and sent the seller a message will see if he listens to my advice when I see some of the goofy adds for stuff on there I usually try to help the seller out most of the time the seller are vary receptive to some advice about their items. My favorite are the starting cranks that are Shaker Grate cranks for coal furnace been a bunch of them on lately Tony K

I concure. About like the ZD's. No style, no personality and nothing to look at BUT, they make a helluva engine, sound good, and pull like the dickens. What i mean is that they pull like you'd never imagine one of those engine's to pull. They just want more under a load.

Doesnt mean that they are worth that ungodly amount though. Who ever got had for 1,029 well, really got had! Didnt know what they were bidding on.

Times are tuff, so you never know where his research and listing staff worked in their last job.. QVC ? or writers on those as seen on tv spots.

If it fails to sell in a few attempts I'll tip him off to the corn planter lid trick and see what fun we can have with that awesome listing

You guys may laugh at this Ebay LB but I know of 2 different auctions in central Illinois where a 1 1/2 -2 1/2 LB brought $800. I was at one of the sales and couldn't believe what I just had seen sell. Expecially when I was at the same consignment sale the year before and bought 2 of them for around $200 each in running condition. You never know.

Went to a local auction last summer with tons of scrap iron (guard rails, light poles, fence posts, old pipe, etc.) that happened to have a John Deere E restored and on a cart. Nice looking engine, but it was still JUST a horse & a half E. All it takes two fools bidding against each other to run it up..... ended up going for over $2300.00 ! For an "E" ! Plain old ignitor fired 1 1/2 hp E..... Maybe if it had been a 6 horse or a spark plug E fully restored, but it wasn't.

Maybe we could chalk this up to amateurs getting into a hobby they know nothing about. OH! Or they have too much money...

If I remember right I think I paid $285.00 for mine which was Way Too Much at the time roughly 15 years ago, but I paid it then because it is an unrestored engine with maybe 85%-90% original paint & pinstriping on it which was worth a little more to me.

It is another of the more common engines out there and good examples of them generally don't go very high, although there are always exceptions.

Depending on condition, and where & when, I would ballpark guess anywhere between $150.00 to $500.00 The lower the better from a buyers standpoint, but it all comes down to what you're willing to spend, and whether you're buying to keep to 10-20 years or trying to buy something cheap to double or triple your money on in a short time. I've paid top dollar or well over what they're worth at the time for every engine I own, Just Because I wanted them, but I also know people that always seem to stumble accross them for little of nothing and make a killing on them 3 months later.
