Default Nelson Bros. Little Jumbo

This engine is Webster fired, Model P 1 3/4hp,paddle style rocker arm. Whatever is supposed to pull exhaust rod back is missing. Manual shows exh. LEVER return spring- separate from exh. VALVE spring but it is not clear where it goes. I am assuming it fits over exh. valve spring & sits into outer area of paddle- pushing from cyl. head to paddle. Is this correct? And is correct spring available anywhere?

You Got it right Bob, but I have never seen repro Springs offered anywhere, I would check with Ed at Hit & Miss first though.

bob you are right on where the spring goes. I don't think anybody has one listed. If I remember right I used the spring out of a 60's GM car starter solenoid.

Hey Mike, what you said about the spring out of a solenoid sounded great. I went to the garage and tried it but it was too big so I figured that your Nelson was bigger.

How about one of you fellas that has an I-H "M". I've been told, but haven't seen one, that they have a similar setup.I have been rootin' around the local farm equip. dealers & may have come up with something, but I don't know it's original use.

Tim It's been close to 30 years since i used one but it was a 1 and3/4. I had a couple of early 60's gm cars at that time and took one out of one of them. as i remember the spring was a little lighter but it worked.

Bob, The I.H.C. engines had a spring that wrapped around the rocker arm in the center to keep one end of the arm snug against either the valve stem or the push rod, sold all my M,s so don't remember which. I guess you would say it kept the slack out. This is not the same as the Nelson Bros engines spring in question.

Bob, This is the same as my Nelson Bro engine. Big return spring actually coils into valve spring at head and into paddle on arm. I
