Default Onan 4.0CCK-Has rope start pulley. Can it start with electricity?

I just saw an Onan 4.0 CCK at an auction. I didn't think to get the s/n. Didn't know if it would matter for this question.
It has a large rope start pulley on the flywheel. Will this type of Onan start by powering the generator exciter or whatever with a battery like my 6.5NH?

I can go back and get the s/n data if needed.

Most likely not. It is a portable unit. But need the model and serail number to tell you.

It could have both. I have a 3.5 cck with a pulley and its electric start. Get the serial number to be sure.

MBB is correct. That is why we need the full model and serial number.

Yep, all mine are electric start - to be honest I wouldn't like to try starting them by hand, particurly without a recoil! But the numbers tells the truth.
Billy, a quick question if I may interrupt the thread - all mine are ex Army, battery start. You can start them by the rope pulley if you have about three people to do it.
Some have a push button on the control box saying "Keep pressed for manual start", some do not. Any idea what the difference is? They all have battery leads.

Keep pressed for manual start. Will bypass the control start system. Very common on some of the old Onans. Most of them have a toggle switch. But if you leave it in manual. It can burn out the points. So on some systems they use a spring loaded switch. Also on alot of military units you will find a switch marked Combat Run. Which means it will run and if anything goes wrong it will not stop until it has destroyed itself.

Manual start means easy rope start or a large drill motor with a pulley and a belt.
