Default Rio Grande 463 Doubleheader

A very interesting early black and white movie that shows a couple of coal fired narrow gauge Baldwin 2-8-2's pulling what appears to be an excursion run. The Rio Grande 463 is teamed up with the Cumbres & Toltec 487 to pull the grades...and pull they do! In places the smoke comes in steady columns.

Note the snowplow on the C&T 487 ...a dead ringer for the one on the Sundance loco.

This silent movie is accompanied by the song "500 Miles" done by the Seekers. Don't know much about them but whoever the female vocalist is does an excellent job.

Googled a little and ... Rio Grande #463 is the Gene Autrey loco, it came to the C & T and went in service in 1994, out again in 2002, then back in service in 2013. Gene Autrey owned it for quite a while. The railroad shown is the Cumbres & Toltec. If you get a chance, take a trip, its great. A good movie, good song, well put together. JFLingg

Go ride this train sometime, I did back in 2014. It`s about 3 Hr. long and is a little smoky. At the end you ride a bus back and that takes about 70 min. The train is also listed as one of the most 10 dangerous train rides in the would.
