I only collect Ashton gauges as the company was started by my great great grandfather.

Way to go !! I like to go to flea markets. Will keep my eye out for you if I see any Ashton gauges. Do you have many in your collection?

Right now I have about 50 in my collection. That's about 49 too many according to some members of my family! I'm getting better now and only going after gauges I don't already have.

I see you're in the area. Are you planning to attend the yankee Steam Up this October in Rhode Island?

Not sure if I'm going to the Yankee Steam Up or not. Have been a few times in the past but not really enough gas engines there to suit me. I used to go with an older friend of mine but due to health issues, he does not attend anymore so we will see what happens.

Harry, Beautiful gauge. I love the ones with the holes cut in the center. I don't have one like that yet but it is on my "lookout" list.

Peter. If you make it up please drop my table and say hello. It's hard to miss with the big "Ashton Valve" sign on the front.

Here's a nice one from the Heine Boiler company. This one was put together in 1917.

One of my favorite gauges is the recording gauge. It came with a years worth of gauge paper to record the pressures during a 24 hour period.

I just picked up this nice vacuum gauge. According to the serial number, this was made in 1920.

One of my favorites is the Ashton master pilot gauge. These were often 2 sided large gauges that were offered in sizes up to 48" in diameter. Sometimes they were illuminated for better visibility. I received an email recently from someone who saw one 48" diameter gauge online for $4500.00. It weighed almost 300 pounds.

In 1892 the Ashton Valve Company bought the Boston Steam Gauge company and entered the gauge market. Ashton Valve is known more for gauges than safety valves today.
Attached is the letter that was mailed to all of their customers.

Another interesting gauge I recently aquired. Interesting in the fact that only half of the gauge has markings. I can't find anything like it in my old Ashton catalogs.

Any ideas?

A few patents the company held for their gauges.

Rebuilding gauges was important as the safety of a crew could depend on the reliability of the gauge. Ashton valve not only offered a repair service but also you could purchase parts to rebuild the gauge yourself.
Test it. Repair it. Get it back online.
