Default Need Help With 79 Ford F250 Truck.

I have been experiencing a problem with my 1979 Ford F250 truck for 3 years and I am getting sick of the problem. The truck has a 400 cid engine with the model 2150 two barrel carb.

The problem is that if the truck sits more than 8 hours it will not start. Even if I pump the accelerator several times to pump gas into the carb, the engine will not start. I have to pour gas into the carb and then the engine will start.

My local mechanic has taken the carb off of the engine and has let it sit overnight on a bench. There is still gas in the carb the next day. So he is confident that the gas is not leaking out of the carb. He has done this two different occasions.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing the problem?

Lately I have been experiencing a second problem. When the truck is idling, the engine will die. The engine will start right up. Any ideas what might be causing this problem?

Thank you in advance for your help.
