Default Bendix Electric Fuel Pump

Does this have a fuel filter built into the pump? Can the filter be cleaned or are replacements available? Instructions would be appreciated. There are two of them on my 1954 American LaFrance 700 Series fire engine with a V-12

These pumps have a small filter and a magnet for metal particles under the end cap with the hex head protrusion. Hold the pump firmly and turn the hex with an appropriately-sized wrench to release the end cap. It only needs about 1/8 turn to release the 3 fingers on the sides of the cap from the bumps on the pump body. The filters can usually be cleaned and reused. Replacements are widely available for about $10 or less if you shop around.

While you have the end open, you can access and clean up the internal moving parts of the pump if it is stuck from sitting with old fuel in it.

I should have added that these pumps are mostly made/marketed by Facet nowadays. They come in a range of fuel flow volumes and pressures, and are 12 or 24 volts. Look on the Facet website for details.
