Default My new engine: Fairmont

Dont know much about em yet, but I'm reading old threads and internet research. I'm gonna have fun with this old girl. I think it is a 1958 (but not positive yet). Magneto is an Eisemann.

The belt pulley "had" an outer lip on it to keep the flat belt on. I would take a flap wheel and smooth up those edges, that could be nasty if someone's leg rubbed up against that if the engine was running!

Cant read the tag, but it looks like an ROC.6 HP. 16:1 oil mix using SAE 40 NON Detergent. You can get away with SAE 30 if you dont load it hard. TCW-3 OIL will work too. DONT cut the mix to 20-1, I have seen too many engines burned out by peope doing that! The 'muffler was a piece of 11/2 tubing (NOT PIPE), with the end squashed 1/2 flat. The engine needs a little back pressure to run right. unusual to see a mag on the fairmont! They usually ran on battery and coil, and moving the timer allowed you tio reverse the engine. Shouldnt be able to do that with a mag, as they usually aredirectional The 'radiator' is actually a condenser, that turns steam back into water to save down time refilling the hopper. DO NOT run the engine without water in the hopper. if you do, you may crack the cylinder or damage the hopper due to thermal expansion. Use water only, NO antifreeze. Antifreeze makes the engine run too hot, and breaks down to a caustic solution that will damage the aluminum hopper (galvanic action between iron and aluminum.).
