Default Fairbanks serial number question

I would like to find more information on an engine. It is the throttle type. I've tried to use the search feature to find serial number information without any luck. What I do know is it's a Fairbanks Z 1 1/2 HP w/a Bosch mag. Number stamped on top of hopper is 55887. Looking for year and any other information that would help me purchase the right manuals for this engine. Plan on going through it and just clean it up and refrain from a repaint. Looking to have an original example of a functional engine. Thanks, Dave

Wendel"s note book lists it as a 1923 model.

Wow, That was quick. Thank you. I'm pretty sure it was a 5 number serial.

The number you are missing is probably on the end of the number. It would still be a 1923. There should be 6 digits for the engine that you discriped.

But the missing digit could also be at the beginning of the number and then the year of manufacture will be different.

Thanks again everyone. I'll be picking up this engine at the end of this week. The serial will be looked at closer then. Maybe the mystery will be solved. Another question is about the Wendel's notebook, is that info found on the web somewhere also?

The sixth digit was found. 558870 is the serial number. Still wondering if Wendel's info is available online. Thanks again, Dave
