I just got home from a auction today.I ran a 9hp Thermoil up to $2700 (all restored and on it cart) wish I had deeper pockets,I know I'm gonna regret it later. But I did pick up a early 2hp headless Witte with the bosch mag and and a strange looking carb and exhaust on trucks for $600.Might seem high to some, but it's in the right price range for me so I'm happy. They also had a 10hp Root & Vandervort on trucks restored that went for $3400.

If you like it...it was just the right price...if you hate it...it was too much...if you really , really like it...you stole it...no blue book on these...if we buy or sell and it's a hundred or so off...who cares? don't get "buyers remorse" ruin the fun and the experience...I've paid too much and too little and it all works out in the end....just have fun.

It's true that you say that Kern, becouse really there is no blue book to this iron that gets called a hobby. It really reminds me of an advertisment on RFD i ocasionally see and it goes something like "get your blue book for your old iron today"

When in reality i have to chuckle at that becouse the seller is gonna sell at what ever he/she whishes to sell and the buyer is set at a limit to what he/she will give. So a book is really useless. Inless you just like to get fimiliar with the price range that tractor or peice of iron MIGHT be.

What did the Gade go for? My son and I were there but it was a bit to chilly for him and he wasn't wanting to stay in the stroller all that bad.

Oppermanjan, I'll try to get the engine prices and post them next week. I think the Gade brought $850,but I could be wrong.

Lets sum up the scene here

Did you over pay? Heck no enjoy that iron cant ever have enough ( wallet seems to be the hold back)

I know folks who spend more at a bar in a month than what you paid and they dont have crap to show for it besides credit card bills piling up(take home morning after priceless just a lil money pit til 18) I like to have some beers but im cheap I let her pay hehehe

When I first started collecting I looked at the prices from a very narrow frame in which I bought a very nice 1.5 fairbanks complete with the cart for 750.00 I thought that was a steal ( it literally looks like it just came from the factory other than the cart being painted) and many thought I was nuts!!! I havent bought a running engine in ALONG time but thats what I like. Its my anger managment class

Enjoy the iron folks and let her pay for the beers
nothing ever too expensive in this hobby it just takes money
