Default Hercules governor question

Just got my first hit&miss running! Governor will not open to hold exhaust valve open at low rpm for that hit&miss sound think i need a lighter gov.spring,if so what spring do i need?No gov. parts are sticking. Motor is 3 1/2 HP S. Thanks

just go with something lighter than you have & work down till you get the speed you want. skip

Read the reprints from GEM that Glenn Karch wrote..good ideas on setting up the engine to run slow as well and just good all around info..Some of the governor assemblies have a spindle that is in several parts including a small ball...if you take the rod out to change the spring be careful in case yours has the segmented rod...easy to drop the ball..as they say.
