Default My Uncle William C. Martin (Clyde) 90 of pearcy Ar. Passed away

Clyde Martin 90 years old from central Arkansas was known by most engine collector's here in Arkansas passed away Saturday morning at his home. Clyde got me involved in the Hit & Miss engine hobby in the mid 1980's and I have enjoyed every minute of it with him! Clyde always had a smile on his face and Loved working on engines, at show's it would be 100 degrees out and he would be out there trying to keep 5 or 6 engines running! He will be deeply missed by myself and I am sure more. He was one of my best friends!!

Thanks Gene I appreciate it, He was Lucky to even be around as long as he was,he fought in WWII for around 3 years and barely got out of the Philippines and New Guinea around 1942 or 1943,one night he was out in a harbor in a ship and that night 3 ships were sank in the harbor by enemy fire out of several I cant remember the exact number?

My condolences...I've found the older generation of iron at heart..to be one of the kindest most sharing of the ages. I am new to the hobby and ask a lot of questions at the shows I can make. Always without hesitation, the older generation is more than willing to lend a hand or offer what wisdom they have acquired in their life. Thank you to all who are willing to help out this younger generation....and lets not forget the ones that inspired and led the path to this wonderful hobby we are a part of.

Thanks Bryxtryme, your right, anyone at a show would ask a question about his engine's he would go out of his way to explain the engines and what there purpose was ect. at the end of the day it was well worth it to him to have met these people and made the show's. He Loved working on engines and explaining to new people what there use was.

Sorry for the loss Jim. You will just have to keep the Martin tradition going in the hobby. I hope you can make it to 90 and still enjoy engines.

Jim,
My condolences. I am glad that you had a great friend like your uncle to share in this hobby with you. Was he responsible for your interest in gas engines?

Yes Rob,,when I was stationed at Minot AFB in the 80's he told me I should look around for those engines with the big flywheels, and i started finding them and buying them for $100 a hp. And the rest is history!

Jim, I too am sorry for your loss. My uncle Bully is the one that got me started in the hobby about 1987. He passed on a few years ago and now when I go to a show we always went to together I have great memories of back when. A big void in your life but it will get better as time as goes on. You know he will be smiling down on you every time you find another rusty old engine to drag home.
