Default Lister Diesel engine value

My son received this e-mail and forward it to me. I am just trying to gather some information on value to help Howard. I will forward the information to Howard. Thanks for your help.

Larry, I am in Ecuador and we were looking at a coffee farm on Friday. I found this old 1 cylinder Lister diesel engine hooked to a 3 KW 120 volt generator. It is water cooled and the guy says it runs good. Do you think it is old enough to be of any value as a collector item? My friend is trying to buy the coffee farm and said if the deal goes through he will buy a new generator set.
Howard

To determine a value I would check up on the completed listing on UK eBay. It looks like a lister CS startomatic (I have zero expertise in this area). I know lister engines were in production for a long time by other companies around the world for the less developed nations.

Here is the first similar listing I came to: http://ebay.co.uk/itm/lister-diesel-generator-/250921548521

As you can see it made £670 close to $1000 (take this lightly people get carried away on ebay as you know). Unless you had sentimental attachment to the Engine and particularly enjoyed its provenience then to me it barely seems worth moving from Ecuador if it was picked up for next to nothing. They are not the most entertaining engines to watch but are great if you wanted to use them. Would make a neat backup lighting rig for your shop!

Joe

Edit: Judging by the brass tag its not built in England or was certainly an export variation, I don't know how that would affect its value.

The spanish tag talks about reading the manual for info on all the combustible oils it will burn, draining the jacket in time of frost, not messing with the injector springs, etc... and it being patented in all the world.
