Unhappy 1926 Bolens walk behind with PB

Another project. Does anyone know the correct colors for a 1926 bolens iron wheel walk behind? There are some traces of green (similar to JD) on the unit, not sure of the engine which is a PB Briggs, would that have been black? Fuel tank has faded letters "BOLENS". Any one have any info on this machine?
Thanks Scott

Scott,

Your correct about the green but it is more of a dark green (Fairbanks Morse Color) for the frame, I think the wheels are yellow, like the earlier model I have, the gas tank is painted red and the engine is all silver. I have 3 of these tractors, and 1 like yours, which has traces of of orignal paint on the frame. The engine was always covered and is all original silver.

Thumbs up Re: 1926 Bolens walk behind with PB

Jon and Travis,
Thanks for the help, I will take a harder look at the wheels, to see if I can find any yellow under some of the grease. Do you mean by the engine covered, there is some kind of sheet metal over it? I will try to post a picture in the near future of what I have.
Is there anywhere that a data tag is located (from Bolens) or a serial number stamped? For the year I am going off the engine serial.
Thanks again.

Scott,
A Bolens tag is usually mounted on a handlebar crossmember. That's where I have seen them, anyway. My Bolens doesn't have a tag at all.

Thanks for the site Dennis, it's starting to look like, as with many other companies, paint schemes could vary a little from unit to unit. For example, the museum unit is shown with a silver and green engine, as opposed to all silver. Mine is pretty much like that. Junkologist's unit is interesting, maybe another variation with the dual wheels. This helps with the planning the restoration. Thanks guys.

Scott,

What I mean by it was always covered with a tarp. The guy I bought it from said when he bought it, it was outside and only the engine was covered by a tarp so only the engine and places where grease was has paint on it. According to the Bolens Catalog I have those extra wheels where called extension rims for heavy mucky soil. The ones I have are attached like that but are hollow in the middle. They also made some steel bands to go over the cleats so you could mow the lawn with this unit. Junkologist's picture shows the front mower mounting bracket. I have never seen this attachment in person. I have a space on my cross member for a tag, but there are only 2 holes and no tag. I would actually like to find a tag so I could have some made up.
