Talking Just hauled home another toy - 7hp Hercules

This morning I was woken with a phone call from Dad, we had bought an engine So I had to get out of bed and get back up home to go and fetch it! I was straight on the first train home dad picked me up at the station and off we went! Well here's the catch. I'll get some good pictures and a video tomorrow when we play with our new toy. Oh that's after we've found room for it!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's it definitely this time no more portables!!!

Its a 1915 7hp Hercules on its drop cart with a clutch pulley and a bit of a paint job. I'm not sure if it will get stripped or not. It does look good when its had a little clean.

Pretty shadow on our wall when we pulled in at home.

Tucked up for the night.

The drop frame cart is gorgeous! I really like those engines a lot.
I kinda prefer the squarish Economy hopper over the Herc, but I like the Herc style too. I have a 9 and a 12. You don't move them by hand! (at least on soft ground)

LarrapMan,

That engine and cart look awesome, in my opinion I would leave it just like it is now. Do you have a video of it running?

I'm trying to get both original and painted engines of the same type to show the differences at the shows. Here's your chance to find another 7 horse in her original clothes, so I'd say leave her as is..... Thanks for posting.

Hello Craig, yes it was Nevilles for a while he gave it its current paint job. It was painted poorly when he got it and he sold it on to our friend a few years back. When it came into the country it was all original and a very complete engine, you can see it on the Astle Park 2012 Flyer.

Thank you for your other comments it sure is a pretty beast, shame its such a dull day for playing with engines today or I would have a video of it already!

SDP: that's an interesting idea, just take a common original engine to a show and someone will turn up with a restored one! Its a delicate subject this will stay the way it is for a while yet but it sure would be nice to get it looking how it does below, I think most would agree on that in this age.

As much as I like orginal engines the paint job on that one looks real good. Might have to loose the lettering on the cart as it did leave Evansville that way but otherwise its got a nice shine to it.

Yeh that cart lettering gets on me too

Fear not John we've got plenty more in the woodwork that we are yanking out at the moment

Really sorry but I don't have a video from today, we had her running once we found a big enough hill to get the tiny amount of gas we put in to come out of the hole I gave Dad my camera to hold while I started it and he killed it somehow, he took a little footage on his cell phone but its pretty poor and I can't figure out how to extract it. I do however have a little clip of it running in my archives which I will get on here. Its not very eventful, it just runs..... I guess thats just what you want in an engine.

HERE WE GO! Were in business now!!!!! Me and Dad went and tested the Hercules this afternoon for our open day as its only 3 weeks away . We tipped half a gallon of gas in on top of what was already in and the half a gallon from last week on level ground and tried to prime it but it was dry in the carb. So after prodding out the fuel line and stuffing a rag in the carb and it still coming out dry we tipped in another 1/2 gallon of gas and that covered the bottom, just. Starting it was easy! Running it was easy! Just costs about $15 to get any fuel in the carb. I hope you enjoy it and it was money well spent....

Dare I say it starts easier than an Associated, or just about anything , but it falls down in fuel efficiency!

I would leave that engine just as it is! It looks great to me just the way it is, and someone spent alot of time to get it that way.

We will see, it will certainly stay as it is for a while, a lot of projects will present themselves with more urgency than this one so it doesn't really matter for a long time. We have entered it to two shows this summer. One thing is unanimously decided we have to get the black writing off the cart!
